Connectivity
Italo is equipped with a unique system that offers travelers the highest standards of connections and entertainment on board. The technological solution adopted consists in a communications infrastructure based on the combination of three technologies (satellite, UMTS and Wi-Fi) which provides for various levels of use by the travelers: from internet connection on ones own PC or hand-held device up to enjoyment of entertainment, among which also TV on the on-board portal.
Italo has available as well a Cinema Carriage for those wishing to relax with a program of entertainment that includes as well first-run films.
SATELLITE, UMTS AND WI-FI
The
Italo is one of the world first applications of the two-way satellite communications with wide-band connections that enable passengers to make the best of their travel time. Besides the satellite, the connection for internet navigation takes advantage of the UMTS telephone network and of the Wi-Fi network too. The result of the interplay between these three systems assures an internet navigation experience that is always of high quality in terms of speed and continuity, even at 300 kilometers per hour. The interaction of these three technologies enables the highest degree of coverage even on the most demanding routes, such as those with a large number of tunnels or other obstacles.
ON-BOARD PORTAL AND LIVE TV
For on-board entertainment,
Italo makes available to passengers an on-board portal from which it will be possible to gain access to an entertainment having absolutely innovatory characteristics in the world technology panorama, whether as regards the quality of enjoyment of the content or as regards the presence of a satellite television channel.
- On-board portal: it is accessible from the travelers personal computers or hand-held devices through intranet connection at high speed and has a capacity of more than 250 hours of high-definition video and more than 250 hours of audio.
- Satellite TV: The connection system is able to transmit a TV channel providing news and entertainment. The programming may be dedicated, depending on the occasions, to live events of particular interest.
- Touch screens: In an on-board environment there will also be individual touch screens from which one can navigate through the entertainment menu, television channel included.
THE CINEMA CARRIAGE
A Cinema Carriage completes he on-board entertainment offer: to assure travellers the viewing of programs with the greatest possible ease, this area has been located at one ends of the train (so to avert transiting towards other carriages) and outfitted with high-definition ceiling screens of large size with audio in four languages. The number of screens and their positioning have been optimized for a full-immersion viewing according to cinema standards. The audio modules were outfitted with a latest-generation noise-suppression system, such as the ones mounted in the first-class compartments of the most modern A380 aircraft, being delivered to the major world airlines.
