Italo currently uses only very high speed type Alstom AGV (Automotrice Grande Vitesse) trains that use the same traction system of the train that on 3 April 2007 set the world rail speed record at 574.8 km/h. AGV is an entirely new concept, designed to travel at 360 km/h.
The trains were built at Savigliano (near Cuneo) and La Rochelle. In April 2012, the train ran on the rails of the Italian railway network for the first time.
It boasts 462 seats, distributed on 11 carriages (the train is 200 metres long), and travels on Italy's high-speed network at up to 300 km/h.
NTV's fleet is currently made up of 25 of these trains, to which 17 new EVO trains (also made by Alstom) will be added. The purchase of the latter was approved by the Board of Directors on 1 October 2015.
The 17 trains, that have a maximum speed of 250 km/h, are called "EVO" and will be a new evolution of the "Pendolino" range, of which more than 500 trainsets have been sold throughout the world, attesting their proven track record of extraordinary performance and reliability. They will join the fleet in December 2017. This "evolution" is aimed at improving the comfort for passengers. In addition, this train is fully compatible with the latest 2014 Technical Specifications for Interoperability (TSI-2014) besides complying with all European and Italian regulations concerning safety and the environment.
